Which TADO BABY product should I choose?

It will depend on the age and development of your child. We have an TADO BABY product suitable for different stages, newborns right through to 6 years old. As a guide, we suggest choosing the following products:

Swaddle Blanket: for swaddled newborns and arms out (rollers) to age 12 months.

Jersey Bag: Transition item from the Cocoon Swaddle, suitable for 8 months – 24 months.

Sleeping Bag or Sleep Suit Bag: for arms out sleepers, kids on the move, little kickers and walkers up to 6 years old.

Winter Sleep Suit: for kids who don’t like a sleeping bag or those ready to transition into a big bed, suitable for 1 year – 5 years.

Layers: TOG rated sleepwear to be worn underneath an TADO BABY bag, sizes available for newborns – 3 years.

What is a Tog? Which one should I choose?

A TOG is a unit of measurement for insulation and warmth of sleepwear and bedding. Put simply, the lower the TOG rating, the lighter the fabric. The higher the rating, the more padded and insulated it is.

You would choose a suitable TOG based on the temperature of the room your baby is sleeping in. Our TOGs are suitable for the below room temperatures:

 0.2 and 0.5TOG = 24 degrees Cº+

1.0 TOG = 21 degrees Cº – 24 degrees Cº

2.5 TOG = 17 degrees Cº – 23 degrees Cº

3.5 TOG = 14 degrees Cº – 21 degrees Cº

Can I use blankets over the top of an TADO BABY?

It is recommended by safe sleep guidelines to sleep your baby with their face and head uncovered, free from bedding, pillows and toys. It is for this reason our swaddles, sleeping bags and sleep suits bags are designed to replace bedding altogether.

To ensure the face is always clear, TADO BABY bags are designed to avoid unravelling, have suitable armholes and a fitted neck. It’s for the same reason there are no hoods on our bags.

 SAFETY +

 Are TADO BABY products safe?

Safety is at the forefront of mind when designing an TADO BABY product. All TADO BABY sleepwear go through product safety standard testing as required by US law and products are designed for safe sleeping according to US.

We ask for your support to double check your TADO BABY purchase is suitable for your child before use.

What do the different fire labels mean?

Fire labels can seem worrying so let us explain what they are for.

Product Safety guidelines are mostly based on what will happen if a garment is exposed to an open flame. All children’s sleepwear will fall into a category and must have a fire danger label if they are correctly labelled to US standards (unless purchased overseas). Categories 1–3 require a low fire hazard label and category 4 requires a high fire hazard warning label.

Category 1 - Garments made from fabric and trims that pass low flammability tests. Examples include wool, some synthetics and some heavy cottons.

Category 2 - Garments that are close fitting, such as pyjamas, do not ignite or burn as readily. As a result, they may be made from more flammable fabrics. Garment measurements apply according to size.

Category 3 - Babies' all-in-ones have their own category because there is little difference between daywear and nightwear. This category covers all-in-one garments in sizes 00–2, such as jumpsuits and rompers.

Category 4 - Applies to garments that do not fit categories 1, 2 or 3 but still meet some fabric, size and burning test requirements.

 COCOON SWADDLES +

  Why use a Swaddle Blanket?

In the early days after birth, a newborn will experience startle reflex that can often wake or unsettle them so using a swaddle can contain this sudden movement. Swaddling soothes and settles them to sleep by providing a feeling of containment, similar to their experience in the confined space of a womb. It also has the following benefits:

 - Keeping baby’s body warm in the early stages when their ability to regulate body temperature is still developing.

 - A hug! A baby would love to spend the whole night bundled up in their parent’s warm arms so swaddles help create that sensation of being hugged.

 - Can help a baby focus on breastfeeding by keeping their arms and legs out of the way.

 - Prevents baby from scratching themselves with their nails.

 - Swaddling = a longer sleep for everyone!

How many swaddles do I need?

We recommend that you start with two, one on and one in the wash. A baby can be a messy creature with leaking nappies and spitting up milk!

 How do I swaddle safely?

 - The neck must be fitted to avoid a baby’s head slipping down into the swaddle.

 - Swaddles should allow for full chest expansion as those little ribs are still very soft and bendy so an overly enthusiastic wrap has the potential to be too firm across the chest.

 - The hips + legs need to be able to flop outwards while the baby sleeps. Tight swaddling across the hips that hold the legs together is thought to contribute and increase developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH).

 - Babies don’t regulate their body heat very well and rely on their coverings to keep them warm but not hot. Do not overdress a baby underneath their swaddle and never cover their head at sleep time (e.g. with a hat or beanie). Avoid using blankets as they are bulky and have the potential to overheat a baby.

 - Swaddling needs to be secure, without any chance of fabric draping over the baby’s face.

When do I transition my baby from Swaddle (closed poppers) to Sleeping Bag (open poppers)?

It’s time to start training your baby on how to sleep with their arms out of the Cocoon Swaddle Bag when your baby begins to show signs of rolling from their back onto their front. We recommend releasing only one arm out first, this will give a baby time to become used to this new way of sleeping. Naturally, they will have a few disturbed sleeps however this is normal when transitioning a baby through anything new so try one arm out for a week or two, followed by the other arm.

Can my baby sleep with their arms up in a Cocoon Swaddle?

A baby won't be able to get their arms all the way up to the sides of their head in an TADO BABY Cocoon Swaddle. Instead, our swaddles are made from a stretchy fabric to allow for natural movement. We find that babies will wriggle their arms and hands into a position that is most comfortable for them, the bag is stretchy enough for your baby to reach their mouth if sucking is what they prefer.

The neck opening seems a little tight on my Cocoon Swaddle?

To comply with safety requirements, our Cocoon Swaddle Bags have a firm fit around the neck, shoulder and chest area to prevent your little one from slipping inside.

A quick way to check if the neck is too tight is to see if you can put 2 fingers inside the neck opening. If you can, the fit is correct. If you are still uncomfortable with the opening being small, we suggest to undo the zipper about 1cm down with the zip cover still over the top.

 SLEEPING BAGS +

How do I choose the right size sleeping bag?

Base your decision on your child’s age and height. Our Sleeping Bags cover 2-12 months, 8-24 months and 12-36 months. The length of each product is measured from shoulder to toe:

 2-12 months of age = 80 cm

8-24 months (available in Jersey Bag Only) = 90cm

12-36 months = 105cm

A sleeping bag should be well fitted around the neck and the armholes to avoid your baby slipping through. It should also be bell shaped in the bottom to allow for easy leg movement.

What is the difference between the Jersey Sleeping Bag and the Sheeting Sleeping Bag?

The body of the Jersey Sleeping Bag is made out of a soft and stretchy knitted fabric (similar to standard t-shirt fabric). We would suggest using the Jersey Sleeping Bag for bubs that are ready to transition out of the Cocoon Swaddle Bag. Only available in 8-24 months.

The body of the Sheeting Sleeping Bag is made out of a 400+ thread count woven fabric (similar to a flat sheet you would use) with stretchy side panels. Available in two sizes, 2-12 months and 12-36 months.

Why are there stretchy panels at the sides of your sleeping bags?

 For two reasons:

  1. As a baby starts to wriggle, the stretch panels allow for comfortable movement and prevent them getting tangled.

  1. The panels help with breathability, avoiding temperature variations and overheating.

Why do you use cotton filling in your sleeping bags?

Sleeping with natural fibres can help your baby get a better night's sleep. Natural fibres disperse moisture from the skin, providing an even warmth and body temperature. TADO BABY sleeping bags are all highly breathable, keeping babies consistently warm without overheating. Synthetic fillings such as polyester do not have the same qualities and can lead to temperature variations throughout the night. They can also trap too much heat, which can be a particular problem for babies with eczema as this will aggravate the condition.

My little one has started to unzip their sleeping bag - any tips?

This is a common problem! Our bags are built to help keep little fingers away from the zippers with extra-large zip covers. However some are just really good escape artists so we recommend turning the bag inside out so that they can't access the zipper pull.

My sleeping bag is soaking wet straight out of the washing machine - any tips?

We found that popping your winter sleeping bag in a full load of washing is better. The full load distributes the water evenly rather than your sleeping bag absorbing most of the water.

I have washed my TADO BABY and rust coloured stains have appeared on the bag?

This is common for our organic cotton filling to react this way after its first wash. The reason for this is that tiny (and random) bits of organic cotton bud get trapped inside the filling of some TADO BABY sleeping bags when they are made. As the cotton filling in TADO BABY sleeping bags do not go through any type of chemical bleaching, the pigment from these tiny trapped buds come out and onto the material when the sleeping bags are washed for the first time.

TADO BABY have tested using a stain remover and 99% of the time the marks come out straight away. Understandably if chemicals don't want to get used, Bicarb Soda works just as well.

If the stains choose to be stubborn and don't want come out, please contact us.

 SLEEP SUIT BAGS +

What is a Sleep Suit Bag?

An award winning design that is created for children who do karate in their sleep and don’t like being confined to a sleeping bag. This 2 IN 1 design can transform from a sleeping bag to a sleep suit with legs using zippers making the transition from a cot to a pram or car, an easy one. This item is also perfect for little walkers as it has grip pads on the feet.

Why are the sleeves on the 2.5 and 3.5 TOG not padded?

As a baby regulates their body temperature through their arms and head, TADO BABY winter bags are padding-free in the sleeves.

 LAYERS +

 What are layers?

Taking the guesswork out of dressing a little one for sleep, our TOG rated layers are designed to be worn underneath a swaddle, sleeping bag or sleep suit bag. Alongside our suggested what to wear guide, these short or long sleeve layers are an essential sleepwear staple when choosing which TOGs to put together based on the room temperature.  Its genius and simple.
